ADAS What To Know!
ADAS is an abbreviation for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. ADAS consists of Forward Facing Cameras, Radar Sensors, Ultrasonic Sensors, and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) strategically placed around your vehicle to decrease the chances of an accident, improve vehicle safety, and driver comfort. They also use an analysis program to analyze the Toyota / Lexus surroundings to identify potential hazards and aid the driver in various ways.
Here are the most common applications for ADAS
- ACC(Adaptive Cruise Control) : Adjusts the vehicle speed to maintain a safe distance with the vehicles ahead
- AVM(Around View Monitoring) : Provides 360°, Bird’s- Eye view to help drivers park more easily
- RCW(Rear Collision Warning) : Warns the driver of vehicles coming close to the rear of the vehicle
- LDW(Lane Departure Warning) : Warns driver when the vehicle drifts out of their lane
- APA(Automated Parking Assist) : Provides audible, visual, or hepatic obstruction warnings during low- speed parking maneuvers.
- LIDAR(Light Imaging Detection) : Detects objects in the vehicle vicinity to create a 3D map of objects and surroundings
- NVS(Night Vision System) : Improves a driver’s vision in the darkness or even in poor weather
- BDS(Blind Spot Detection) : Detects and warns the driver of vehicles in either the drivers or passengers rear corners
- PD(Pedestrian Detection) : alerts the driver to the presence on a pedestrian in front of the vehicle
- TSR(Traffic Sign Recognition) : Recognizes traffic sign information and visually relays it to the driver
It is important to know when an ADAS Calibration is needed. An easy way to remember is that if the sensor’s are disrupted in ANY WAY, an ADAS recalibration is required.
Here is a short list of when to get your ADAS recalibrated.
- After any collision or after collision repair
- Windshield or side view mirror replacement
- Any modifications done to the suspension or after an alignment
- Sensor or Mounting bracket replacements
- If there is any related Diagnostic Trouble Code is pulled with a scanner
- Any updates that arrive from Toyota on the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin)
